In
the provocative first episode of the HBO show, The Network, a few years
ago, the main character set forth a litany of reasons why America has
become eclipsed in the world.https://www.facebook. com/video.php?v= 485015298234731&set=vb. 469873159706969&type=2&theater
Do we agree that America is not the greatest country? That I do not know. But - I know this - We Can Be.
With
our powerhouse universities driving research and technological
innovation, we can continue to generate solutions to the pressing
problems of today - in the areas of health and medicine, the
environment, reliable low-cost energy, productivity, and much more.
With
Americans' entrepreneurial spirit we can foster the deployment of these
solutions not only within the United States, but throughout the world.
With our shared values of honesty, candor, and integrity, we can with a
renewed advocate for what is right, and just, for ourselves and for the
world.
But, greatness follows effort. And it all begins with you.
You must
strive to become better educated, to remain informed, to speak out
against injustice and intolerance, and to advocate for better
government, freedom, and compassion.
You must seek to understand the viewpoints of others, examine the evidence, and reach your own conclusions, rather than merely repeat the phrases rolling off the lips of t.v.'s "talking heads."
You must
vote - to elect leaders who are more concerned about America and its
citizens than they are about receiving campaign contributions for their
own re-election, about their own political party, and even to rise above
solely advocating for local interests.
America can be the greatest country, if you act and persevere to make it so.
